How did Amity respond to the global pandemic?
Our students are most important to us and we do everything we can for their success. So, we took the challenge posed by the lockdowns globally head on to ensure our students get the education they deserve. Our campuses in Dubai were the first to close down. Our IT teams and faculty worked around the clock and within two days we had the systems in place to teach remotely. Within a few weeks, as other Countries locked down, we had over 150,000 students learning daily from the safety of their homes. Our IB School in Amsterdam was the first to reopen in June, bringing in the new normal. Our global presence tremendously helps us benchmark world-class quality and processes.
At Amity, our students constantly interact with leaders who are role models. To ensure the continuity of that, we organized over 1,900 online Guest Lectures by Nobel Laureates, CEO’s, distinguished scientists and spiritual leaders like the Dalai Lama and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in the past few months. To support our students and even their parents, we extended our 24 hours psychological counselling helpline to all. To keep students engaged, the Amity Youth Forum was organized online where over 10,000 students from hundreds of universities and schools around the world participated in competitions. The feedback from students was amazing as all these activities took their minds off the stressful situation around them.
Of course, our great emphasis is also on research and innovation. Our Institute of Virology and Immunology established a Global Research Network on Novel Viruses where leading researchers and scientists from around the world have joined. Dozens of innovations have been patented and tremendous scientific outcomes have been achieved.
What has Amity done at the community level during the Covid-19 crisis?
Values and Sanskars are the bedrock on which we nurture our students at Amity. Service to those who need it the most is one of the values imbibed in all. Our campuses across the country rallied together to help the nation’s mission of ensuring the stranded migrant workers, and those who needed were fed. During the deepest lockdown periods, over 50 tons of ration was distributed and over 100,000 food packets were prepared at our campuses and distributed. Our faculty and staff came together to donate from their salaries, and with a matching contribution from the Foundation over 1.5 crores was contributed to various funds.
What is your mantra for education?
Transformation! When students join us, we take on the responsibility to give them the personalized care and support to ensure that they develop to their best potential. I am happiest when parents say that their child has transformed at Amity. Transformed in terms of confidence, sense of responsibility, maturity, values… This makes all the tremendous effort put in by our thousands of team members across the world absolutely worth it.
